Barbadians, or "Bajans", enjoy a rich, wise culture. Some recent paintings have been named for Bajan slang, as heard in snippets as I painted. Crane Beach, Barbados has been named one of the ten best beaches in the world. With its baby-powder fine, pink-tinged sand and its turquoise waves, it is a favourite painting destination of mine. The beach lies below a ragged cliff, atop which stands a fine old hotel with walls made of coral. -BKG
